Tony Jasper
Tony was once described in the NME’s once gossip column as a man of many parts. He has a Master’s in Theology, various Diplomas, and has worked extensively in radio, television and theatre. He has written for major newspapers and magazines on the contemporary music and folk worlds. As an author he has over 70 titles published in music and religious fields. His latest book, Next We Shall Sing, released in late April this year, for which Tony has been described as "upsetting hymnological applecarts like moneychangers’ tables" (John Marsh, Moderator of the United Reformed Church of Great Britain).
His Jasperian Theatre Company (www.jasperian.org) has run since 1992 and received much acclaim in secular as well as religious journals. His own acting includes recent work for BBC1. In 1982 ITV screened a docu on his life and Christian witness. He preaches on a Sunday across a wide range of Christian communions from Salvation Army to House, to the mainstream. He is amazed how God has led him into so many fascinating fields.
Tony has been an ACG member since its early days and thanks David Winter for being instrumental in his joining. For some years with Stella Wiseman he edited The Cut, the then journal of the ACG. He also became chef in ACG’s former home at Short Street, Waterloo, London and remembers fondly how a stout lady sat on his prepared tiramasu between Regents Park and Oxford Street on the Bakerloo Line. That night the ACG café board listed tiramasu crumble. Apparently it sold well as something new to most people.
Tony remains much committed to ACG. He believes Christian insight to be most vital in the Arts and Media world and that the role of Arts Centre Group should be one of growing influence.
