Entering the ACG Playwriting Competition 2017

How to Enter

  • The script should not have been performed within a professional theatre context nor published in any other way than a personal manner by the author by email or included on a blog or writer’s forum. You may enter more than one script.

  • The play should not have more than five characters, and can be a monologue or double-hander. It can be in any style.

  • The writer should give a brief synopsis of their aim and purpose.

  • Those entrants who are 21 and under may enter both competitions, but should you wish to enter both, a fee would be payable for both entries. If your 22nd birthday is within a month after the 11th September you may still enter the 21 and under competition.

  • Copyright of the winning texts will remain with the writer, but the author gives ACG non-exclusive permission to present a play reading of the scripts at a London venue to which those associated in the various forms of theatre are invited.

  • Texts should be laid out in the accepted manner and printed on one side of each A4 sheet with the play title on each sheet and pages numbered. There should be a cover page which should bear the writer’s name, contact details and play title.

  • A script should be submitted in a format acceptable to Microsoft Word and emailed to the Competition Administrator, plus 2 printed copies posted to him at the address given below.

  • No scripts will be returned unless accompanied by an envelope with the correct postage as the latter may be affected by size and weight.

  • A detailed commentary on a script can be given for an extra fee of £25, and will be by someone much involved in the theatre.

An application form can be downloaded as a pdf here, or obtained from the ACG office, click here for contact details.
